MATCH REVIEW: 2017 AFC CUP | BEOUNGKET ANGKOR VS JDT

The AFC Cup Group F match between Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and Beoungket Angkor FC took place on April 19th 2017 at the National Olympic Stadium, Phnom Penh. There were surprises as a different starting line-up was fielded including the third-choice goalkeeper to guard the goal. The strategy bore early fruits as Safawi Rasid ran past the defence with a solo run before bamboozling the opposition goalkeeper to put JDT in front in the 7th minute.

JDT’s second goal came in the 25th minute when Nazmi Faiz spotted the goalkeeper off his line and unleashed a high shot at goal. JDT almost increased their lead when they were awarded a penalty before the first half ended as Gopinathan was fouled by a player inside the penalty area. However, Azammuddin Akil failed to score from the spot.

The second half still saw JDT dominate the game despite being the visiting team. A few attempts on the Beoungket Angkor goal gave the hosts a few panic moments. Gabriel Guerra came on to increase the goal margin in the final minutes and the game finished 3-0 in favour of JDT. Luaskan Kuasamu Johor.
