MATCH REVIEW: PERAK FA VS JOHOR DARUL TA’ZIM FC (MSL 2016)

Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT) have extended their unbeaten run in the Malaysian Super League after defeating Perak 1-0 in front of 26,000 home supporters at the Perak Stadium, Ipoh on August 6th 2016. JDT head coach Mario Gomez put together his best line-up to obtain the much-needed win to remain at the top of the league table. Marcos Antonio and Hariss Harun had early chances in the 2nd and 3rd minute respectively when their efforts just missed the target. After the match was halted for eight minutes due to a technical problem with floodlights, Jorge Pereyra Diaz opened the scoring for JDT in the 15th minute when he headed in the rebound after Juan Martin Lucero’s header from an Azammuddin Akil cross hit the bar.

JDT continued to put pressure on Perak with relentless attacks on their goal. Lucero almost doubled the lead in the 32nd minute when his follow-up effort, after Safiq Rahim’s free-kick was saved, was denied by Perak goalkeeper Muhd Hafizul Hakim. Lucero then had another chance to increase JDT’s lead in the first-half injury time, but it was hit wide off the Perak goal. JDT reduced their playing tempo in the second half, only occasionally making attacking attempts, in which one of them was Marcos Antonio’s header that narrowly missed the goal and a chance to pile more misery on Perak after being set up by Safiq Rahim. Towards the end of the match, Mario brought on Amri Yahyah and Gary Steven Robbat to close the game as the only goal from Jorge Pereyra Diaz proved to be enough for JDT to pick up all three points and remain on course in defending the Malaysian Super League title this season. Luaskan Kuasamu Johor.
